Find Subtitles Utilizing A Movie Hash

French and Spanish are common foreign language subtitles on American DVDs.

A movie hash is a program that searches films and provides the subtitles in any language. Users of movie hash programs can use them to find English subtitles to foreign language films or to find the foreign language subtitles for English language films. This latter point is especially useful for individuals whose knowledge of English is less than fluent. English speakers looking to learn a foreign language may also enjoy a subtitle translation of their favorite movie into a foreign language not commonly available on the DVD subtitle list, such as Russian.

Instructions

1. Download a movie hash program, such as Mozilla's Subtitle Matcher or go the online movie hash database at Subtitles.com. Follow the instructions given specific to the download and dependent on whether you have a Mac or PC. Also, try the websites rapidsubs.com or subtitleseeker.com.

2. Name a specific movie in the program's search field and click enter. You may skip this step to search for any movies with a specific subtitle language.

3. Select the language of the subtitles desired. The languages are usually identified by the relevant country flag. Note that English will be identified by the British flag and not the American.

4. Download the subtitles. Some programs, such as iGoogle Gadget, will give you the option to watch the movie online with the selected subtitles. Additional downloads may be required.
