Making Movie Posters

Creating movie poster can be a way to advertise school functions.

Creating a movie poster can be a fun project for school. Whether the student is in elementary school or college, creating a movie poster is easy. It can accompany a report or essay. It can also advertise a movie or a play showing for a school function. Creating a movie poster is a great way to show creativity. Students can create their own movie poster to use as their interpretation of what the movie represents to them.

Instructions

1. Click on the movie poster software to open the program. For purposes of simplicity, specific steps are listed for Microsoft Publisher; other software requires similar steps.

2. Click the "File" tab and select "New." A pop-up will appear. Select "Letter (Portrait) 8.5 inches by 11 inches". Click "Create" or "OK." A blank workspace will appear on the screen along with a tool-box window.

3. Insert a background color. Click the "Format" tab and select "Background." Color choices will appear on the left side of the screen. Click the "More Colors" link under the "Apply a Background" title. A pop-up window will appear. Select the desired color from the color selection. The background color may be a "Paint Bucket" icon for some programs in the tool box window. Click the "Paint Bucket" tool. A pop-up will appear. Choose a color for the background and click on the blank workspace to fill with the desired color. If there is to be no background color, omit this step.

4. Scan any images to be used for the movie poster using a scanner and save to your computer. Add the images saved on the computer to the movie poster: Click the "Insert" tab and select "Picture." Select "From File" from the drop-down menu. A pop-up window will appear. Choose your saved image file. Click "OK." The image will appear on the workspace. Make the image smaller or larger by dragging the guidelines with the mouse. Use the "File" tab and select "Open" to choose the image file from the pop-up window when using a program that does not have an "Insert" tab. Add more images by repeating this step until all the images for the movie poster have been added.

5. Add text boxes to type in titles. Click the "Insert" tab and select "Text Box." Draw the text box by pressing the left mouse button and dragging the mouse on the workspace. Make the text box smaller or larger by dragging the guidelines with the mouse if the text box is too small or too big. Create multiple text boxes to separate lines if desired. Some programs do not require a text box and let the creator type directly onto the workspace. Click the "Font" tool in the tool-box window. The "Font" tool can be identified as a capital letter "T." Click on the workspace and begin typing.

6. Change the margin size if needed. Click on the "File" tab and select "Page Setup." Change the margin sizes on the right side of the screen to the desired size.

7. Save the file by clicking on the "File" tab and select "Save As." A pop-up window will appear. Name the file. Click "Save" when finished.

8. Print the movie poster onto the brochure paper. Click the "File" tab and select "Print." A pop-up window will appear with printer options. Select the correct printer if more than one printer is associated with the computer. Change any options to the desired selection such as paper or the number of copies to be printed. Click "Print" when all the selections have been made.
