Join the team behind "The Greatest Show on Earth."
Since their opening night in 1871, the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus performers have been delighting and thrilling crowds with their skilled antics. In their acts, they deftly combine animal and human performances, entertaining onlookers with traditional circus tricks while bringing a contemporary edge to their shows. Circus performers, however, are only a portion of the employees hired annually by Ringling Brothers. Administrators, concession stand employees, booth agents, security guards and many other unseen employees work hard to make "The Greatest Show On Earth" successful.
Instructions
1. Get into shape. No matter what circus job you will perform, your days working in the circus will require physical stamina and will involve long hours on your feet. Prepare to be strong enough to set up tents, your own workspace and to care for the circus animals.
2. Gain a formal education, if possible. Find a clown school, or a gymnastics class if you're interested in acrobatics. Even though formal classes probably won't be required for most circus jobs, investing in your education demonstrates to Ringling Brothers that you are motivated.
3. Gain first-hand experience in circus work, even if you have to volunteer for a short time. A mix of education and experience is a prerequisite for most circus jobs, but circuses like Ringling Brothers will probably not even look at your resume unless it reflects that you have experience.
4. Check the Feld Entertainment website and also the Career Builders website to see which positions are currently being filled. These are the two websites on which the Ringling Brothers Circus lists their openings.
5. Make a long-term plan for your career in the circus. Circus performers can go on to become administrators, or instructors at schools and camps. At some point, you may even want to leave the circus to pursue a career dream such as a television show, a career as a stunt double or your own television show.
6. Prepare your resume and a letter indicating what type of position you would like to be considered for. Keep in mind your long-term career goals, and make sure that your resume reflects the skills that will help you become promoted.
7. Send your resume and the letter to Feld Entertainment, Inc.
