The Hardstyle Shuffle, also known as the Melbourne Shuffle, is a dance popular with the techno music scene. Hardstyle music is a sub-genre of techno or electronic music. The dance's name derives from the fact that hardstyle music is the easiest to shuffle dance to. Even though the dance is done to the main beat of a song, the movement seems to be between the chords or over the beat. It can be challenging to learn, but not difficult. Once you get the hang of it, you can develop your own unique style.
Instructions
1. Do the Running Man dance move. This dance was notably popularized by MC Hammer in the late 1980s. Start with one leg back and the other bent, as if preparing to run. Bring your back leg up and forward while sliding the foot of your bent leg backward. Alternate each leg to simulate the running motion. As you bring one knee up and forward, slide the foot of your opposite leg backward.
2. Shuffle one foot sideways in a wiggle motion. Stomp your foot in a downward motion with your other leg when the heel of the wiggling foot turns inward. You can stomp your foot down directly beside one leg, behind it or in front of it. This is the shuffle motion. Do this in conjunction with the Running Man to achieve the basic Hardstyle Shuffle move.
3. Kick one leg out at a sideways angle while simultaneously doing the basic Hardstyle Shuffle move. Wiggle the foot of your other leg sideways while you are kicking out. Kick your leg out only when your wiggling foot turns inward. To add variation, you can spin as you kick. When spin-kicking, kick your leg downward as if you're kicking a ball with your toe or stomping something with your heel.
4. Glide across the ground. This move gives the illusion of gliding and is one of the highlights of hardstyle shuffling. While doing the basic Hardstyle Shuffle move, slide one leg as far as you can from the other across the floor. Bring the closest leg toward the extended one as you continue the basic Hardstyle Shuffle move. This motion should be very quick.
5. Add spins, known as extreme spins, for emphasis. This is when you spin around several times, often during the song's breakbeat, before resuming your basic Hardstyle Shuffle move.
