Choose colorful borders attracting the attention to the content of the bulletin board.
Teachers who strategically decorate their bulletin board bring the students' attention to focus on the content of the boards, such as deadlines and inspiration to study. Decorating the border of the bulletin board draws in the interest. Choose borders that reflect the content on the board. Interact with the students by involving them with the board decorations at the beginning or end of each month. Buy a variety of colorful cardstock, markers, glue and two-sided tape in advance.
Choose Images From Nature
Nature provides a wide array of choices to inspire decorations for the border. Make waves by cutting bright blue paper in the direction of waves. Create a garden of flowers. Give each student colorful cardstock, and ask each one to make a 3-inch flower with their name on a petal. To create a zoo, ask each child to pick an animal, draw and cut around the drawing. Discreetly staple each design so the staple won't be noticeable.
Make a Chain-Link
Creating a chain-link of hearts, houses or trees adds a creative effect on the border of the bulletin boards. Measure the bulletin board, and divide the measurement of inches in three as each figure will be around three inches. Choose a long piece of paper, and mark each 3-inch interval with a pencil. Fold the paper, and draw the figure on the front fold. Cut around the figure, carefully avoiding the sides, which will cut the link. Unfold and staple at intervals on the board.
Faces of the World
Promote multicultural education by creating a border featuring singers, political leaders, leading women or actors in the world. Chose a theme that will also be covered in the class. Make this an interactive activity by asking each student to choose a person, conduct some basic research and speak on their chosen person in front of the class. At the end of each short speech, the student may glue the profile picture of the person they spoke of on the border.
Feature the Seasons
Changing the border as well as the content of the bulletin board should be done monthly. Decorate with the seasons at the beginning of the new season. Good borders for spring include bumblebees, tulips and umbrellas. Summer calls for the sun, waves and palm trees. Bright colors of autumn request fall leaves, and pumpkins while winter offers a hearty variety with snowflakes, snow-covered trees, cardinals and holiday inspirations.
