Easy Clay Projects

Make easy clay projects with self-hardening clay.

Many adults and children enjoy making crafts out of clay. Although some clay projects can be difficult, you can find a variety of easy clay projects to undertake in the comfort of your own home. From an easy clay necklace to a tooth fairy jar, use your imagination to create an easy clay project your friends will envy. A trip to your local craft store is all you will need to get started on these easy projects.

Necklace

Make a clay necklace using self-hardening clay, ribbon or yarn and acrylic paint. Design the clay necklace to any shape you would like, such as a heart or diamond. Shape a hole in the clay around the top of the charm to put the string through. Let the clay charm harden overnight. Use acrylic paints to add color to your necklace and allow it to dry completely. Then put the ribbon or string through the charm to wear it as a necklace. You could also make the clay into a square with a deep pocket so you could press a small photo into the clay.

Hand Print

Create a memorable hand print in clay that will last a lifetime. Spread self-hardening clay out on a table and press your hand into the clay to make a deep imprint. Use a pencil or plastic knife to write your name and the date in the clay. Let the clay harden overnight and paint it with acrylic paint if you prefer. Purchase a stand for your hand print or sit the keepsake on a shelf.

Rubber Stamping

Purchase several rubber stamps and self-hardening clay at your local craft store. Use a rolling pin to flatten out some clay and use the rubber stamps to make designs in the clay. If you want to add color to the clay pieces, use acrylic paint. Make these clay pieces for holidays such as Valentine's Day and Christmas. For example, use a rubber heart stamp, write "Be Mine" using a plastic knife and give the clay piece as a gift for Valentine's Day. For Christmas, use Christmas-themed stamps and shape a hole in the top of clay pieces to make ornaments for your tree.

Tooth Fairy

Use a baby food jar, self-hardening clay and a permanent marker to make a tooth fairy jar for your little one. Clean and dry a baby food jar and cover it in clay. Take white clay, shape it like a tooth and press it onto the clay that is on the jar. Allow the clay to dry overnight then take a black permanent marker and write, "_____'s Teeth" on the lid.
