Grass Cutting Games

Virtual grass cutting is not so backbreaking.

Grass cutting games are available for several platforms, including PC, iPad and iPhone. Of the ones commonly available on the Internet, some are free and some cost a small fee. The basic principle is the same. You have to move your mouse, and press keys or touch the screen to move a character or otherwise control events, so as to remove grass. However, this basic idea has been applied in several creative ways to different game scenarios.

Extreme Grass Cutting

In all three modes, you cut the grass by swiping your mouse pointer across it, or by rubbing the pointer up and down the grass. You score points according to how much grass you cut. In "Free Play" mode, you can click "Grow Grass" for more grass. You can also submit your score. To quit, click "Main Menu." In "Survival" mode, the more grass you cut, the faster it grows. A danger bar at the top left gives warnings. In "Time Attack" mode, to advance to the next level, you have to collect all of the gems before you run out of time.

Sunday Lawn

In Sunday Lawn, you help a character named Charlie mow the garden, using your arrow keys. You should avoid hedgehogs, dogs (which appear in level 3) and other moving obstacles. After each stage, you are told how many time bonus points you have scored, and the length in yards of your longest mow. There are eight levels. You click your mouse button or press the "Ctrl" key to move on when you complete a level.

Cut the Grass HD

Cut the Grass HD is a puzzle game for the iPad. It requires iOS 3.2 or later. It is not free, but costs less than $1 and is available from iTunes. You have to help Joey clean up his backyard. The game has 70 levels and four different challenges. It is more a game of logic than action, as you have to work out the correct cutting sequence. Specifically, you have to mow each patch of grass without traveling over the same patch more than once.

LawnMowerKids

A 21-stage grass-cutting game for iPhone, LawnMowerKids lets you guide three kids around neighborhood gardens, using different grass-cutting tools, such as a ride-on mower and push-along mower. Each tool has advantages and disadvantages. Working against the clock, you have to mow all of the grass on each level, avoiding obstacles like pet dogs, flower beds and party guests. To move the characters, you draw a trail on screen with your finger. This game also costs less than $1.
