Old School Drive-In

The Trapeze School
Fling yourselves high into the air above the Santa Monica Pier and the Pacific Ocean. Located directly on the pier is The Trapeze School New York, which offers the brave opportunities to learn the basics while swinging very high, and safely, in the air. Classes are offered during the day and evening and instruction is appropriately supportive--not pushy.
Decide which class you want to take first. Afterwards, take a placement evaluation to determine what level you are best suited to. Classes include the classic Flying Trapeze, which involves swings and a 23-foot platform; Silks and Ropes, where you will hang from ropes in various poses while manipulating silk fabric to form graceful pictures; Static Trapeze, which entails hanging from a non-moving swing in a number of poses; and a Trampoline class, which teaches the basics of tumbling.
Vineland Drive-In
Take your better half to the last remaining drive-in movie theater in Los Angeles. From 1933 through the 1970s, drive-ins were a popular way to enjoy new films under the night sky. Offering customers the chance to watch a film in relative isolation while in their own vehicle, the Vineland Drive-in delivers sound by having moviegoers tune their car radios to a specific station. In the past, a monospeaker delivered the sound.
Visit the Vineland Drive-In and choose between four films. Starting at dusk, the Vineland shows movies on four screens. If the film you're watching is a bore you can always look to your side and view the movie showing next to you. If there is a double-feature playing, make sure to watch the old, cheesy cartoons luring you to the snack bar in between films.
South Pasadena
Stroll through a small town in the big city. South Pasadena is an area of the city known for its dedication to maintaining a small-town atmosphere. Exploring Mission Street and Monterey Road with its quaint shops makes for a fun diversion from the bustle of the rest of the city. You can stop by the South Pasadena Historical Museum to see the Los Angeles of old before heading to the Firefly Bistro for dinner.
Drive down the street after dinner and hear a stage show at the Pasadena Playhouse. The playhouse has been producing quality shows since 1917. The theater produces a hearty selection of new works as well as well-known revivals. Production values are generally high and seasons run throughout the year. Shows often sell out on the weekends so book in advance.
