Purposes Of Rubber Cement

Although rubber cement definitely has its uses, it also has a distinct odor. Therefore, you need to work with it in a well ventilated or a large, open area. Always supervise children when they use it.

Use

Since rubber cement comes with a brush attached to the lid, it's easy to use. Just unscrew the top and spread a thin layer of glue over the area. If you get the glue in places you don't want it, wait until it dries and just rub it off.

Photographs

Although in the past, many people used rubber cement when they mounted pictures and for other uses in scrapbooking, people now know that rubber cement loses its hold over the years. However, some still use it, since the rubber cement does hold for a few years and you can glue items again.

School Work

Many school projects use rubber cement. If your child needs to attach pictures to paper or add a newspaper column to a report, rubber cement is great for this.

Classroom

Teachers use rubber cement to hold up items on places they can't use pushpins, such as a blackboard or the doorway. Using scotch tape is more visible, therefore rubber cement is better to use.

Cleaning Rubber Cement

Sometimes rubber cement stains upholstery and fabrics. If that happens, sponge the spot with dry-cleaning solvent and a mixture of a mild pH-balanced detergent and lukewarm water. Then, flush the area with clean water and let it air dry.
