Polish Granite Surfaces

Polishing granite buffs away faded and dull spots.

Granite is a natural stone commonly used throughout the home. Some frequent places within the home where granite resides are in kitchens, bathrooms, furniture and in other decorative applications such as fireplace surrounds. Over time, granite may begin to show signs of fading and become worn and dull due to the effects of everyday use. Granite must be polished in order to bring it back to its original shine and luster.

Instructions

1. Spray a stone cleaner formulated for granite onto the granite surface. Use a lint-free cloth to wipe away the cleaner and buff the granite surface dry.

2. Apply a liberal amount of granite polish onto the granite surface. Granite polish is available at most hardware or home improvement stores. Allow the granite polish to sit on the granite surface for the recommended amount of time as indicated on the product instruction label.

3. Wipe the granite polish off the granite surface with a clean chamois. Rub in circular motions to get the maximum shine and polish. Continue rubbing the granite in circular motions until you have removed all the polish and have buffed the granite to the desired shine, paying special attention to the dull and faded areas.

4. Pour a liquid granite sealer onto the granite surface. Refer to the sealer's label instructions on the exact amount of product to use. Using circular motions, rub the sealer into the granite with a clean chamois until the excess sealer is blended into the stone. The granite sealer will provide the stone with an extra layer of protection from future fading and dulling.
