Create your own graphic novel.
Anime and manga (Japanese animation and graphic novels) saw a huge increase in North American popularity in the late 1900s. Children, tweens and teenagers, and even many adults, were drawn to the fantastical elements and bold styles that make up most Japanese stories, and many writers and artists embraced this new style of storytelling. As with pursuing any career in the arts, it can be challenging to make a name for yourself, but with perseverance and hard work, anything is possible.
Instructions
1. Collect as much information as you can on manga publishers. Browse their websites to find out what type of stories intrigue them, what topics they're looking for and what style of art will get their attention. Choose two or three companies that have the same literary goals you do.
2. Find a writer to collaborate with if you don't feel your strength is writing. Find a writer who shares your sense of story and agrees with your vision, but be willing to take constructive criticism on your ideas and illustrations.
3. Develop a story, taking into account what your chosen publishers are looking for. Focus on developing a good, strong story and believable characters rather than trying to shock your audience with twists or surprises. Once you have a story written and sold, you can focus on other stories you want to tell.
4. Polish your submission. Go over your submission again and again, until it shines. Make sure every panel is your best work, and every page is the best it can possibly be.
5. Network with others in the industry. Go to conventions and gatherings, attend panels and signings. Meet artists and writers and agents who are involved in the publishing world. You can submit your manga script on paper or electronically, but it's always better to hand it to someone who works for the company.
6. Make a name for yourself. Make yourself known on popular art websites, submit short stories and comics to contests, and create your own website, forum or blog. Always be kind to your fans -- having followers who want to read your work is just as important as having people who want to publish it.
7. Submit your manga script or story to the publishers of your choice. Go over their submission guidelines and make sure your work conforms. Make sure you always have work out for consideration, and don't get discouraged. It may take multiple attempts before your efforts yield success, and the only way to improve is to keep trying.
