Framing acrylic and oil paintings is important for the preservation of the paintings and the appearance of them. After you find a frame for your painting that matches well (dark woods and black are popular), you are onto the next step of securing the acrylic or oil painting into the frame.
Instructions
1. Lay the painting down into the frame, securely and tightly. Make sure it is fitted inside. If desired, you can place a sheet of glass first into the frame then lay the canvas down. This is not necessary, but it can give the painting a more polished look and help preserve it better.
2. Secure the canvas stretcher bar to the frame on each of the four sides of the canvas, directly in the center. Do this using an aluminum pipe clamp. These can be found at any hardware store. The aluminum ones are easiest to shape because they are lighter. Use the hammer to beat the clamp flat.
3. Shape the clamp with your fingers. Place one side of it on the canvas, then bend the other side onto the frame in a fluid motion. You will do this process for each of the four sides of the canvas and frame. These clamps will be what attaches them together.
4. Insert two screws into each clamp. One will be screwed into the frame, and the other will be screwed into the canvas. Repeat this procedure for all four clamps.
5. Pick up the frame with the canvas inside. Set it upright and make sure it is secured and held tightly within the frame.
