Perform The Scissor Part Of Tap Dancing

Emily Larew Doing a Toe Stand

Sometimes when you’re a dancer and performer you’ve got to go for the flash and razzle dazzle just to show the crowd that you can pull it off. You’re there to entertain the audience and to show them your stuff. The scissors step, which is bound to get you some applause, is flashy. You might want to practice it while holding onto a dance bar because you are required to balance on your toes.

Instructions

1. Shuffle (brush forward and back) on your right foot.

2. Balance on your right toe and then on your left toe. This literally means that you are on the toes of your tap shoes. This is not a frontward pointing of the toe or the tapping of a toe, this is flat out balancing on the toe of your shoes.

3. Step down on the ball of your right foot.

4. Drop your right heel.

5. Stomp (bears no weight) on your left foot.

6. Learn the steps in order: Shuffle, toe balance, toe balance, step, drop your heel, stomp.
