Use Old Magazines To Brighten A Vase Or Bottle

Use your artistic sense, a glue gun, and a vase or bottle to give that useless old magazine new life. All you have to do is make thin strips or reeds out of magazine pages, and glue them onto the vase or bottle. This will create a colorful, tiered look and also will make the bottle or vase look like it was made from magazine bits.

Instructions

1. Select the pages from the magazine that you want to use. Colorful pages are best, unless you want to make a monochromatic piece of art. Tear each page out that you want to use.

2. Rip a page in half, lengthwise. Fold each strip lengthwise into a quarter-inch rectangle that is the height of a regular magazine page. It will be like a long, multilayered stick.

3. Using the hot glue gun, make a ring of hot glue around the bottom edge of the vase or bottle, just above the base. Quickly circle the magazine strip around the hot glue and press down. Clip off any excess scraps of magazine that don't fit in the circle.

4. Take the second half of the magazine page and repeat Steps 1-3. This time, place the glue ring just above the previous magazine strip, and glue the second strip so it overlaps the first. Envision a final product that is laid out like circles of overlapping roof shingles.

5. Repeat Steps 1-4 until the entire vase or bottle is covered in magazine strips. When you get to smaller or tapered parts, you will need to cut off more of the excess magazine strip, because less will be used in these parts.
