Wire A Clothesline

Dry your clothes on a clothesline for a more economical approach to laundry.

A clothesline lets you air dry your wet laundry the traditional way. It might take more time and effort, and it is not for everyone. The method has advantages that you might find to be worth the effort. Using a clothesline to dry your clothes can save you some money because you spend less on electricity and dryer maintenance. According to Seattle City Light, it is also the greener choice because it conserves energy. Clothes might last longer without harsh drying techniques, and they smell fresher as well.

Instructions

Pulleys

1. Measure the distance between the pulleys.

2. Calculate the length of the wire you need, which has to be twice the length of the measured distance, plus the length you need for looping around the pulleys.

3. Loop a long wire around both pulleys and tie it together with a tight knot.

Tee-shaped Poles

4. Measure the distance between the two poles.

5. Measure the length of the horizontal bars on top of the poles. Decide on the number of lines you want to run across the two poles. There should be a space of at least one foot on the horizontal bar between two lines.

6. Calculate the length of wire you will need by multiplying the distance between poles by the number of lines you want. Leave plenty of extra length for tying the wire to the poles, which should be about 12 inches for every line.

7. Tie one end of the wire to one end of a horizontal bar. Take the wire to the other pole, and wrap the wire around the end of the other horizontal bar. Scoot the line one foot to the side on the bar and wrap the wire around the bar again. Take the wire to the other pole and repeat the process until you get the number of clotheslines you want. When you are finished, tie the wire securely to the end of the bar.
