Remove Rubber Cement From The Carpet

Remove Rubber Cement From a Carpet

Rubber cement is an elastic gluing product. It is useful for areas in which you need a flexible agent to keep material stuck-on. You can remove rubber cement from most surfaces, including paper, without damaging the substance. Accidents happen and spills can occur, but by removing rubber cement from carpet as soon as the mistake happens, you can be sure you won't have a lasting stain.

Instructions

1. Pour 1 cup of hot water into the spray bottle. Add 2 tbsp. of mild liquid laundry soap and 1 tbsp. of vinegar. Screw the top on tightly and shake to mix.

2. Place the spoon at the edge of the rubber cement with the scoop side down. Push up, underneath the cement gently. Move the spoon to another side of the rubber cement and push up again. Complete this step for all sides and repeat twice. Using a spoon will lift some of the rubber cement out of the carpet without destroying the fibers.

3. Vacuum the loose rubber cement. Adjust the vacuum to the highest height setting. Run the vacuum over the spot twice.

4. Spray the rubber cement with the cleaning solution. Let the liquid penetrate the stain for roughly six minutes.

5. Dab the area with the sponge. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing as this can damage the carpet fibers. Remove the excess liquid and spray the area again. Allow the solution to sit on the stain for three or four minutes.

6. Wring out the sponge. Blot the rubber cement stain. Remove the excess moisture and the remaining rubber cement.

7. Press down on the spot firmly with the hand towel. This will draw out the remaining dampness and cement.
