IrfanView is a free utility that allows you to view and make simple edits to computer image files. In addition to costing nothing for personal use, IrfanView supports older operating systems such as Windows 98 and runs on slower computers. If you use IrfanView to open image files on your computer, you can also use it to modify images. For example, IrfanView can change the size of JPEG and other images via the "Resize/Resample" menu option.
Instructions
1. Open IrfanView. Click the folder-shaped icon in the upper-left corner of the window to display the "Open File" dialog. Locate the image on your computer that you would like to resize, and double-click it.
2. Click the "Image" menu at the top of the window, and then click "Resize/Resample."
3. Click the "Set New Size" radio button on the left side of the window to resize the image by using specific dimensions in pixels, or click the "Set New Size as Percentage of Original" radio button to resize the image as a relative percentage of the current size.
4. Click the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" check box to maintain the original length-to-width proportions of the image when resizing it. If you select this option, IrfanView changes the width or height of an image automatically when you modify the other dimension.
5. Click the "Width" or "Height" field, and enter the new desired size of the image. If you did not enable the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" option, enter a value for the other dimension as well.
6. Click "OK" to resize the image.
7. Open the "File" menu, and click "Save As" to save the image.
