Traintracks are easy to draw, even with icing.
Young children love trains. When it comes time for your little train lover to have his next birthday party and he asks to have a train-theme party, you can make his cake yourself. Making a cake is one of the easiest things you can do to add to the theme of the party, even if you aren't necessarily good at baking. Add a little train d cor to your cake by making a train track and placing prop trains on top of the cake for your child to have once the cake is eaten.
Instructions
1. Go to your nearest party supply store and locate the baking aisle to find black food coloring. You need this to dye your frosting black to make train tracks. You also need white frosting.
2. Scoop white frosting into a bowl and add one drop of black coloring to the frosting and mix. Continue adding one drop at a time until your frosting is the desired shade of black.
3. Put the frosting into a cake decorator bag and screw a thin, round tip to the bag. Hold the bag in your dominant hand, and place the tip of the bag where you want to start your train tracks on your cake.
4. Squeeze the bag until black icing comes out of the end, and make a long straight line from where you want the tracks to start to where you want it to end. Move your hand slowly so the icing comes out smoothly and evenly.
5. Move the decorator bag back to the beginning of your railroad track and over to the left or right 1 1/2-inch; make a second line that mimics the first.
6. Move the bag back to the beginning of your railroad tracks one more time and connect your tracks by making lines with the icing, from one side of the track to the other every inch or so, depending on the size of your railroad track and the cake you are decorating.
