Collage Inside A Sketchbook

Make a sports collage.

A collage is a type of visual art that includes an array of images on paper or canvas to create a theme or picture. A collage serves to express a person's thoughts or emotions, while displaying the person's artistic talents. Although sketchbooks are commonly reserved for drawing, collages may also be included in a sketchbook as a form of illustration. Make a collage in a sketchbook using colorful images of people, animals or outdoor elements. Piece each image on a sketchbook page together to create a picture that sends a message to the viewer, with or without words present.

Instructions

1. Open the sketchbook to a blank page, and lay the sketchbook flat on a table. The sketchbook may be positioned vertically or horizontally on the table, depending on how each image will be arranged on the page. Color the sketchbook page with colored pencils or crayons to add color to the collage's background.

2. Using scissors, cut images from different magazines and photographs, such as eyes or tree leaves. These will be used to create the collage. Select images that form a theme, such as the four seasons of the year, or images that send a message, such as a stop sign with the word "stop."

3. Position the images on the sketchbook page according to how each image will be pasted onto the page. Images may be layered, separated or next to each other to form the larger image. Place the images in a manner that is pleasing to the eye to create the collage.

4. Paste each image onto the sketchbook page with the glue stick according to how each image has been positioned. Add or remove images if desired to manipulate the initial collage design. Allow the pasted images to dry for 20 minutes before proceeding to the next step.

5. Create shapes, such as circles or squares, over the surface of the collage with markers to enhance the appearance of the collage. Write words on the open spaces of the sketchbook page, or over the images, to include a message in the collage. Embellish the page with acrylic paints to add a different element to the sketchbook collage design. Allow the paint to dry completely before moving the collage or closing the sketchbook.
