1. Think of all the settings you might want to photograph. 2. Write a list of items that are associated with the holidays and special occasions you selected. Christmas evokes images of trees and candles, strings of lights, wreaths and sleds. Think of items that can be incorporated into a background. For example, a child or two can be posed on a sled in front of a tree. Make a list of the props you would like to add to your studio resources.


3. Visit the thrift stores in your area. Shopping at thrift stores and outlet stores can save you money, and you are more likely to find unusual things. Look for vintage pieces, like hats and trunks, and you'll have materials for a shoot with an old-fashioned theme.


4. Search the Internet. The Web has many sites that specialize in photography props. They even have clearance items. When shopping online, try to buy things that can be use for more than one kind of photo.


5. Add items to your props department often. Always be looking for things to add to your inventory.
