Anime Drawing Ideas

Draw some anime designs of your own creation.

Anime is the name for Japanese animation. There is a wide variety of anime genres, such as science fiction, fantasy, romance and adventure. One pastime of many fans of anime is designing anime characters and scenes. The possible themes of anime drawings are as wide-ranging as those of the animations. Common themes are a good place to start your own anime designs from. There are many existing examples of these themes, so there is plenty of visual reference material to use while drawing. The examples given are just a starting point. Make sure to use your imagination and draw the characters and scenes that come most naturally and are most interesting to you.

Mech

Draw a mech. Mechs are common themes in anime. A mech is a large robotic armored vehicle used for transport and combat. Some mechs have a humanoid appearance, while others may have just a pair of legs, a chassis and weapons. Weapons may include large cannons, banks of missiles and laser batteries. Some mechs may be capable of flight; others are limited to ground travel. If you are drawing a transformable mech, you may wish to draw the mech in its various modes. The pilot may be visible inside the cockpit or not.

Wizard

Draw a wizard. A wizard is a character who is the master of magical powers. A wizard can be good or evil, young or old and male or female. A wizard need not be human. Many anime wizards wear long robes -- sometimes colored, sometimes black or white. Wizards may wear long hats. Often a wizard uses a special amulet or staff to focus magical power. You can draw a wizard sending a magical blast from the hand or firing magical bolts from the staff. You might want to draw an animal or spirit companion for the wizard. An older wizard might have a younger apprentice.

Combat

Draw a combat scene. Anime combat scenes often consist of warriors flying through the air and clashing their weapons together, or the fighters might unleash a barrage of missile attacks. You can show one figure at the moment of defeat as the other deals a lethal blow. Often a combat scene shows sweat dripping from the face of a warrior to show the exertion involved. Anime characters in combat may grit their teeth and squint their eyes.

Non-human Characters

Draw a non-human character. Some anime characters are half-animal, such as centaurs which are half-human and half-horse. Another popular type of anime character is the angel. This may be as basic as a human with wings, or it may be more complex with ornate garments and a bright halo. Metamorphic characters such as werewolves are another possibility. Intelligent robots are popular non-human anime characters. A robot may have a human design or a completely mechanical one.
