Remove vocals from a Pro Tools 7 session.
Removing vocals from a Pro Tools 7 session is useful when you need to re-record vocals or mix down an instrumental version. This can be done by making the vocal tracks "inactive" or simply deleting them from your session. Making vocal tracks inactive, or any tracks for that matter, saves your computer CPU power and gives you the option to bring the vocal tracks back at any time. Deleting vocal tracks from Pro Tools 7 also saves your computer CPU power, but it permanently removes them from your session.
Instructions
Make the Vocal Track Inactive
1. Click "Window" and select "Mix" to view the "Mix" window.
2. Click the vocal track name to highlight it.
3. Click "Track" and select "Make Inactive." Doing so will gray-out the vocal track and make it inactive within your Pro Tools 7 session. If you wish to bring the vocals back, simply highlight the vocal track, click "Track" and select "Make Active."
Delete the Vocal Track
