Create A Seashell Decoration

Make a Seashell Decoration

When decorating with seashells, ensure the shells are thoroughly cleaned beforehand. Avoid using shells that are severely damaged, worn or broken. Use the shells to match your home's decor and choose the best places to display your seashell creations based on the feel and design of the room.

Instructions

Creating a Seashell Decoration

1. Decide which area of the house would be best suited for a seashell decoration. Once the venue is selected, gather all the shells you intend to use and consider the design options. Whether the seashell collection is large or small will help dictate what kind of decoration you will create.

2. Fill the top of a large, potted plant if you own a large seashell collection. The idea translates to smaller potted plants as well, but the larger the plant, the more dramatic the display will be. Ideally, use a pot that is approximately one foot across. Scatter the seashells around the stem or trunk of the plant, covering the dirt entirely. The plant should appear to be growing out of a bed of shells. Since the shells will not sit flat across the surface watering the plant should not be a problem, as the water will trickle through the shells and into the soil.

3. Spruce up an old picture frame with some seashell accents. Use super glue to adhere seashells in a pattern on the picture frame, or cover the frame entirely with shells. Position the shells in the desired pattern before gluing them in place. Place a vacation photo in the frame and mount on the wall.

4. Gather several select seashells, sand and candles. Fill a deep tray, ideally 2 to 3 inches deep, with sand. Position the candles (enclosed in glass candle holders) around the tray. Scatter some shells in the sand around the candles. Place on a coffee table or end table as a beach-inspired accent piece.

5. Glue some small shells to an empty photo magnet. Cover the front of the photo holder entirely and place on a fridge or metal appliance as a subtle pop of beach in the room. Position the selected shells before gluing them down to create the perfect design.
