Instructions
Submit Amateur Photographs Online
1. Find an online photography contest. You should be able to find dozens of online contests in dozens of different categories. If you have a penchant for wildlife photography, for instance, find contests that are geared toward that category. Submit photographs into categories that are your strength to improve your chances of winning.
2. Read the rules of the contest. Take note of whether your photograph stays as your original property or you hand the rights over to the contest authorities. This is very important, especially if you want to use the photograph in the future.
3. Abide by any instructions regarding file format, such JPEG or TIFF, size and resolution. You do not want to be disqualified for something as trivial as format or dimension. Submit your photo once you know you have followed all the instructions.
4. Log on to the websites of major camera equipment manufacturers. They may hold a photo contest or provide links to other photo contests online. Submitting photos into those contests usually means a more lucrative prize, but that also means the playing field will be very competitive.
5. Note whether contest entries require a fee. If there is a fee involved, make sure you are comfortable sending your payment over the Internet. Photo contest websites that appear unsecure are probably just that. Know what you are getting into so you are not surprised by the results.
6. Keep track of each submission in a document or a journal. Though contest winners are usually contacted, you never know what might happen.
Find other Amateur Photograph Contests
7. Visit your local photo processing shop or camera equipment store. They may have brochures and flyers on photography contests.
8. Join a local or regional photography club. They may hold monthly or quarterly photo contests within the club. They may also have information on other photography contests you can enter.
9. Browse through current photography magazines and see whether there are any photography contests you can enter. But photography magazines are not the only source of contests. Parenting magazines, wildlife journals and fashion publications may also hold photo contests.
