Everyone gets nervous before singing on stage, but it is imperative that you relax before singing. Otherwise, your voice will not be steady, and you will have labored breathing. A steady voice means being able to hit the high notes, and it may not happen if you're nervous.
Instructions
1. Focus on a certain thing in the audience, such as a person whom you know, or a fixed object on the wall near the center of the room. This will help you focus on your singing while making it appear that you are actually looking at the audience.
2. Inhale deeply several times before going on stage to sing. Perform breathing exercises to enhance relaxation. Focus on making your breathing start in your diaphragm.
3. Use visualization techniques to help you calm down. For example, say the alphabet from Z to A. This will take so much concentration that you will forget to be nervous. Pretend you are in the shower singing, rather than out on stage in front of a lot of people.
4. Block everyone out of your mind, and pretend that you are singing in an empty auditorium. This will help you relax and be able to sing your best.
5. Make sure you drink a lot of water to keep hydrated. This will help your vocal cords stay healthy so that you can give the best performance possible.
