Make An Origami Ninja Sword

Mystical characters and objects such as ninja swords bring fantasy, mystery and adventure to mind. Making origami ninja swords with decorative paper or creating your own design patterns is a rewarding and easy way to use your imagination and practice this ancient Japanese paper art form. Execute a few simple folds to a piece of paper and you will be able to create a variety of ninja sword sizes.

Instructions

1. Fold one end horizontally of your 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper approximately 1 inch. Crease the fold. Continue folding the paper over in the same direction. You can opt to staple the folds in place at the top, center and bottom of the folded paper. This is the start of your blade.

2. Fold another sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper horizontally as in Step 1. You can opt to staple it in place as well. This will be your handle.

3. Slide the handle into the bottom opening of the blade. Make sure you slide it in far enough for the center to feel firm to the touch.

4. Fold your 3 x 5 paper horizontally in half. Crease the fold and open it. Take one end and fold it towards the center crease line. Take the opposite end and fold it towards the crease line. Fold the paper closed. Do not staple it closed. This will be the sword's guard.

5. Measure 1 1/4 inches width at the center of the handle with your ruler. Cut approximately 1/2 inch in depth width your scissors. You can opt to staple the guard's ends in place, not the center.

6. Slide the blade in between the guard's center opening. Continue to slide it until you cover the area between the blade and handle. You can opt to staple it in place.

7. Cut a shaped curve to resemble the ninja sword at the end of the blade. You can opt to add a special design to the handle of your completed origami ninja sword.
