Cut Foam Core

Foam core is a type of board that is constructed of foam sandwiched between two sheets of card stock. Foam core can be used for several different crafts. It is also used for architectural models, as well as for mounting photographs and artwork. No matter what you are using a sheet of foam core for, chances are you will need to cut it down to size to suit your project. Cutting foam core is very easy and only requires a few easy to acquire tools.

Instructions

1. Lay your foam core on your cutting mat to protect your work surface form the blade of your craft knife. Measure out the area that you need to cut using your ruler.

2. Use your ruler as a guide for your craft knife to get the straightest cut possible. Cut in one long straight line with your craft knife piercing through only the top layer of card stock. Repeat the cut as many times as it takes to get all the way through the foam core.

3. Repeat the cut you just made, this time cutting through the foam layer in the middle of the foam core. Repeat the cut one last time to cut through the bottom layer of card stock.

4. Draw your pattern onto your foam core, if the cuts you need to make are not straight lines, and then trace the outline with your craft knife to cut the design, cutting only through the top layer of card stock the with the first cut. Repeat the cut two more times, once for each subsequent layer, just like you would for a straight cut.
