Design a Homeschool Room
Decorating a room to be used for home schooling can be exciting and challenging at the same time. You must create a balance between being functional, organized and appropriate for the age of the child you are home-schooling. Make sure the room is a place that encourages learning by choosing the right paint color and having appropriate seating and educational supplies.
Instructions
1. Choose the right paint. This may not seem like a big deal, but color plays an important role. According to Color Wheel Pro, different colors can affect the body differently. Yellows are stimulating, blues are calming, green is soothing and reds increase energy. You should consider the room color in order to create an environment that is conducive to learning and concentration. For a home-schooling room, calming or soothing colors, such as green or blue, may be the best choice.
2. Add furniture to the room. Your furniture options will be based on how many children you home-school and the size of the room. If you only home-school two children, you can buy typical school desks. However, if you home-school more than that, or just don't have the room for individual desks, consider purchasing a large table and chairs to slide underneath.
3. Create an area for a computer. Computers are used a lot in education today, so including a computer in home schools is just as important as it is in public schools. The computer can be tucked in a corner, even in the hallway.
4. Decorate the walls. You can purchase educational posters, alphabet letters or numbers, maps, or whatever is conducive to the age group and material you are teaching, from local teacher supply stores or online through Web sites such as Teach Store. Create an environment that encourages kids to learn.
5. Add organizational bins, buckets and shelves. Home schooling requires all of the education materials to be kept at home: books, paper, markers, worksheets, art supplies, and miscellaneous items, making organization very important. Add shelves to store books. Miscellaneous supplies such as markers, rulers or blocks can be placed in labeled bins, much like the ones sold online at Wal-Mart.
