Vellum is a sheer craft paper used to add a hazy appearance to crafts. Vellum is commonly used for everything from invitations to kids' crafts and has even gained popularity in scrap booking. Because vellum is so thin and fragile, it should always be placed against another, more rigid paper, like card stock or photo paper.
Photo Invitations
When you want to send family a photo, but don't want to pay for photo cards and invitations, you can use vellum to create the card. Use your printer to print your desired message directly onto the vellum. Lay the vellum on top of the photo, punch a hole through the photo and paper and tie them together with a ribbon.
Ocean Craft
Teaching kids about the ocean is a fun lesson that can be enhanced with vellum. Have the kids create their ocean world on plain paper, or ask them to draw fish on an ocean background. Next, add a blue vellum layer onto the paper. Instead of tying it down, apply glue to the edges of the drawing using a glue-stick and press the vellum into place.
Tracing
Scrap booking can get expensive when you are constantly buying font letters and other art additions for your pages. Save some money on your next project by finding fonts that you like in magazines or mailers. Set a piece of vellum over the font and trace your letters. The vellum letters can then be used like normal scrap book letters.
Calligraphy Projects
Keeping calligraphy straight is tricky. Make your calligraphy writing easier with vellum paper. Simply place the vellum sheet over a piece of lined or grid paper. You can either secure it in place with a small piece of tape or a tiny drop of rubber cement. Then complete your calligraphic work of art, aligning the bottom of the line at the top of the vellum paper.
