A Stretch For Sophistication For Ballroom dancers

Flexibility is extremely important to a dancer's ability to perform advanced movements and tricks. Some people are born naturally flexible; however, most are not. The only way to increase ones flexibility is through continuous and extensive stretching. Some dance studios offer stretch classes nowadays. Here is teach a stretch class for dancers.

Instructions

Find a Studio

1. Locate dance studios that do not already offer stretch classes. Speak to the owner or director about your proposition to teach stretch for dancers to improve their technique by furthering their flexibility and increasing inner strength.

2. Warm up the dancer's muscles by doing a three minute series of jumping jacks, push ups, crunches and jump rope movements.

3. Do deep lunges on each leg followed by right and left splits. Pull the students' arms back gently while in the splits so they arch back. Then have the students lie on their backs and open their legs to the middle split position. Press lightly on their inner thighs, lowering them closer to the floor.

4. Lie on your back and grab one leg. Pull it into your body keeping both legs straight. Push the students' legs further. Repeat with the other leg. Do the same stretch standing with the students holding onto the ballet barre as you press their legs up.

5. Lay down two mats with a 1 1/2 foot space between them. Have the students take turns doing their splits on the mat. Press down on their shoulders so their bodies lower and legs remain in place thus pushing them beyond 180 degrees. Next stretch feet by sitting on the floor, holding the foot with two hands, pulling it toward you and arching it toward the ground. Repeat with other foot.

6. Create new and challenging stretches each week so the dancers are continually increasing their flexibility and pushing themselves.
