Change Colors Inside A Color Wheel

A color wheel helps you choose paint colors.

A color wheel is a color display often used by artists and interior decorators to determine how different colors will look together before purchasing pricey fabrics or painting an entire room. A color wheel can be purchased at home design stores or art supply stores, and changing the colors displayed is simple once you know what to do. Interpreting the colors you've turned to can also be easy with some practice and basic know-how.

Instructions

1. Turn the outer layer of a cardboard color wheel by moving the display window that sits on the top surface of the wheel until a color that you want to test is displayed.

2. Move the secondary cardboard slide under the top slide by turning the wheel until a second color is displayed that you want to test with your primary color.

3. In the room you are designing, hold the color wheel up against the painting canvas you are working with to see how the colors work in the space.

4. Tape paint squares matching the selected color wheel colors against a wall in the design room to see how the colors look as the light changes throughout the day.

5. Turn the primary and secondary wheels of the color wheel if you are unhappy with the first two colors tested. Repeat the process until you find the colors you like best.
