For those who love paper crafting, vellum can become your favorite medium. Use vellum to create a wide variety of craft projects including cards, home decor and photo keepsakes. Look in the specialty paper department of your local craft store or paper goods store to find vellum in many colors and sizes. It is often found as decorative stickers and embellishments used for scrapbooking and other paper crafting.
Photo Cards/Announcements
Cut a piece of card stock slightly larger than a photo in width and double the length. Fold the card stock in half to form a card. Use double-sided tape or glue to adhere the photo to the center of the card stock. Cut a piece of vellum paper to the same size as the card front.
Open a word processing program on your computer and then type an announcement, event information or any wording you like into the document. Print this wording onto vellum paper with the printer set on draft or low ink usage. Set the vellum paper aside and allow the ink to dry completely.
Punch a hole into each short side of the vellum paper and the card. Place the vellum over the card stock and thread ribbon through the holes on both sides. Tie the ribbon into bows or knots to finish the card.
Stamped Vellum Candle Holders
Measure the candle holder you plan to use and then cut a piece of vellum paper to the size of the candle. Use stamps with paints or inks to decorate the vellum, use a graphic design program and print the design, or even draw freehand onto the paper. Add flock, glitter or sequins to the design using clear glue or adhesive. Wrap the vellum paper around the candle holder and adhere in the back using double-sided tape.
Paper Lanterns
Use your computer to make any design you like and then print the design onto vellum paper. Allow the paper to dry completely before moving on; otherwise, you may smudge the ink. Use a craft knife to cut away the excess paper around the design.
Wrap the vellum around a glass candle holder until the ends meet and then tape them together using clear tape or use a hole punch to make holes in the sides and then thread them with ribbon to tie together.
