Create A Strobe Light Inside A Box

Strobe lights always add a touch of glam to a dance floor. If you have a space that you'd like to redecorate into a dancing or entertainment room, you can add a customized strobe light to entertain your guests. Boxing strobe lights prevents them from being damaged if someone bumps into them, and are a great way to control the direction your strobe light shines in. The box is simple to make and you can assemble a box without being a carpenter.

Instructions

1. Purchase a strobe light or regular light bulb and strobe adapter. The first option will take a lot of guesswork out of the project because the size dimensions are fixed.

2. Purchase plywood and electrical wire. Take a measurement of your newly purchased strobe light to figure out how big your box must be; there should be at least 4 to 6 inches of space between the actual light and the box walls to mount it and service the light if needed. Measure the plywood sections with a tape measure and outline a cut-out template using a straight edge and pencil. You will need five pieces of equal size: four to form the box and one for the back.

3. Put on eye protection and cut the five box template pieces out of the plywood with a circular saw. Then, hold the bottom of the box and one of the sides together with your hands on a flat surface. Align the pieces perpendicularly and nail them together with a nail gun. Repeat on the opposite side, leaving the bottom on the flat surface. Nail the back panel on next, then the remaining plywood cut-out on the top. Check your alignment as you go.

4. Attach a paddle bit to a drill. Make sure the bit will make a hole large enough to allow the strobe's power cord and end prongs to go through it. Drill a hole slightly off-center in the back panel. Place your strobe light into the box and secure it in place with screws using a screw gun. Strobe lights generally have a rear "handle" with a pre-drilled hole for mounting in different places. Use the rear handle as a mounting bracket. Pull the power cord through the hole and plug it into a wall outlet. Dim or turn off the lights and enjoy your boxed strobe light.
