There are a wide number of career options for these professionals, including cartoonist, comic book artist or colorist, graphic novel illustrator, comic book inker, illustrator, webcomic artist, toy or videogame designer, animator or freelance artist. There are a limited number of education programs with a major in sequential art. However, it is possible to attain any of these occupations with credentials in another field.
Savannah College of Art and Design
Georgia is the home to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), which maintains the largest sequential art department in the country. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the field and incorporates advanced tools like specialized computer applications and Cintiq displays into the cirriculum. Programs include BA (Bachelor of Arts), BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), MA (Master of Arts) and MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in sequential art. Professionals in the field attend the school as guest speakers and visitors. According to the SCAD website, the school's graduates are in demand by some of the United States most recognized companies. More than 175 companies and organizations visit SCAD every year to recruit students and alumni. Employers of sequential art graduates include Houghton Mifflin Company, Marvel Comics and DreamWorks SKG.

Rhode Island School of Design
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is consistently ranked in the top five in the "U.S News and World Report" graduate fine arts program rankings. RISD--in Providence, Rhode Island--attracts more than 200 prominent artists, authors, curators and philosophers each year. Maricopa Community College
The Maricopa County Community College District in Arizona is the largest provider of community college higher education in the nation. It consists of ten individual colleges offering 37 associate degrees, 1,000 occupational programs and 10,254 courses. As part of this system, Phoenix College (PC) provides a comic and sequential art certificate of completion (CCL). It consists of 37 credit hours focused on pencil and ink work, digital sequential art applications and writing story-lines. Course focuses include digital painting for comics, comic strips and sequential picture books designed for children. This program prepares students for careers such as television of film animators, children's book illustrators, cartoonists or video game designers.
