Learn to conjugate Spanish verbs to better communicate when traveling abroad.
Learning to conjugate verbs in Spanish brings a language student a step closer to communicating, whether in the classroom or while working or traveling abroad. Students often begin by memorizing simple vocabulary lists and grammar rules, but learning regular Spanish verb conjugation lets them start to put phrases and ideas together. Lots of study and practice will have you on your way to communicating in real-life situations and connecting with Spanish-speakers all over the world.
Instructions
1. Write a list of Spanish infinitives, such as "hablar," "comer" or "vivir."
2. Write a pronoun list for each word that includes the following pronouns: yo (I), tú (you informal), l (he), ella (she), usted (you formal), nosotros/nosotras (we), vosotros/vosotras (you all informal), ellos/ellas (they), ustedes (you all formal).
3. Separate the stem of the verb for words ending in "-ar." Conjugate the verb so that it agrees with each subject pronoun. For yo, add "o" to the stem. For example, "habl" plus "o" equals "hablo" (I speak). For tú, add "as" to make "hablas" (you speak). Add "a" for l, ella or usted to create "habla" (he/she/it speaks). Conjugate nosotros by adding "amos" for "hablamos" (we speak). For vosotros, add "áis" to make "habláis" (you all speak), and conjugate ellos/ustedes by adding "an" to create "hablan" (they speak).
4. Separate the stem of the verb for words ending in "-er." Conjugate the verb so that it agrees with each subject pronoun. For yo, add "o" to the stem. For example, "com" plus "o" equals "como" (I eat). For tú, add "es" to make "comes" (you eat). Add "e" for l, ella or usted to create "come" (he/she/it eats). Conjugate nosotros by adding "emos" for "comemos" (we eat). For vosotros, add " is" to make "com is" (you all eat), and conjugate ellos/ustedes by adding "en" to create "comen" (they eat).
5. Separate the stem of the verb for words ending in "-ir." Conjugate the verb so that it agrees with each subject pronoun. For yo, add "o" to the stem. For example, "viv" plus "o" equals "vivo" (I live). For tú, add "es" to make "vives" (you live). Add "e" for l, ella or usted to create "vive" (he/she/it lives). Conjugate nosotros by adding "imos" for "vivimos" (we live). For vosotros, add "ís" to make "vivís" (you all live), and conjugate ellos/ustedes by adding "en" to create "viven" (they live).
6. Recite each verb conjugation until memorized. Practice using them in various sentences.
