Most actors would like to have roles in movies, particularly blockbuster films. With the competitive nature of the acting world, it can be a challenge just to get an audition for a movie.
Instructions
1. Move to Los Angeles. While movies are made in other areas such as New York, Canada and New Mexico, Los Angeles is still the capital of movie-making. If you are serious about pursuing an acting career, you will find far more opportunities for auditions in Los Angeles than anywhere else. That being said, you'll also find more competition there as well.
2. Purchase entertainment trade papers that list auditions such as BackStage. These publications generally come out on a weekly basis and list casting notices in them. Most casting notices will require that you submit your headshot and resume to the casting director who will then choose which actors will audition for a particular role. There are, however, some casting notices that will simply list specifics for an open-call audition. This means anyone can show up to audition during the time window provided.
3. Join online casting websites such as Actors Access and Now Casting. You can upload your resume and photos to these sites and then submit yourself to casting notices. While some sites charge you for each submission, most sites simply charge a monthly subscription fee, and you can then submit yourself to as many casting notices as you wish. The casting director will then review all the submissions and choose specific actors to audition for particular roles. If you are chosen to audition, you will be contacted by the casting director.
4. Submit yourself to student and short film listings. If you don't have experience acting in movies, it's imperative that you get some. Student films are a great learning ground for any actor. You'll have a better chance of getting feature film auditions if you have experience acting on-camera. You can also choose your best clips from films you've been in to create an acting reel which features your best film acting work.
5. Attend film casting director workshops. At a workshop, you'll hear from a particular casting director who casts movies. He will tell you a bit about his office, the movies he's currently working on, and you'll then have the opportunity to perform for him. You can also ask him any questions you may have. If a casting director likes your work, he may call you in to audition for a film he's casting. These workshops generally cost between $30 and $50.
