Located smack-dab in the center of bustling Union Square on 14th Street, the Virgin Megastore is a large shop that has any CDs you could possibly want to get your hands on, from Brazilian bossa nova to Italian pop music. This is one of the oldest independent New York City music shop, and a fantastic place to get CDs, both new and old, usually at good prices.

4. Shop at FYE on Avenue of the Americas. FYE is a great haven for CD browsing after, or during, a hectic day in midtown Manhattan. With all of brand-new releases and then some, FYE is the ideal place to go CD shopping if you are looking for the latest and most popular current releases. The prices are also very reasonable.

5. Go to Borders Books in Columbus Circle. Located in Time Warner Center, Borders Books stocks an excellent selection of both books and music. The CD selection is diverse, and the prices are moderate, so you can get both your music and book shopping done at the same time while you're at Borders. What more could you ask for?
