From decals or duct tape, who has not had that annoying sticky residue of adhesives left over after it has been pulled off? It is unsightly and can be difficult to remove, but a few household cleaning products can make it much easier.
Instructions
Different Surfaces
1. Determine the type of surface you are working on. Every surface requires a different type of cleanser to remove it. Household surfaces such as metal or marble are easy to clean, but with plastics you will need to be more delicate.
2. Use warm soapy water for hard household surfaces. Scrape or peel the tape back. You can start by peeling back the tape or decal . Get as much of it removed as you can, then use a scraper or knife to remove some of the residue. After you have gotten most of it, soak a rag or sponge in 4 parts warm water, 1 part detergent and a couple of tablespoons of vinegar or ammonia. Scrub the residue vigorously and it should come off after a few minutes. Do not use ammonia on plastic as it will tarnish it.
3. For plastics, use dry cleaning fluid. Cover the tape in the fluid and let it soak for a minute. You should be able to remove the decal now. Make sure to wipe off the excess fluid and clean the plastic with soap and water afterward.
4. Use a blow dryer. If you have adhesive tape stuck to wallpaper or a surface that cannot get wet, hold a blow dryer at medium heat close to it for three to five minutes. Once it is warm enough, you should be able to peel it off gently.
