Create A Showgirl Headdress

Showgirl headdresses should be bright, colorful and over-the-top.

Showgirl headdresses are reminiscent of the glamor of the Las Vegas strip, including the sequins, feathers and beads. These showy, large headpieces are designed to invoke the glamor of a classic, fantastical show and can draw attention from many yards away. Most of the ingredients for this over-the-top look can be purchased at your local craft store and assembled in the comfort of your own home.

Instructions

1. Turn the hot glue gun on and allow it to heat up. Place the visor hat on a flat, even surface.

2. Glue large sequins in an intricate pattern over the bill of the visor. Create spokes that meet at the center and fan out or create squiggly designs. Place a pea-sized amount of glue on each sequin and press to the fabric of the visor bill. You will wear the visor so that the tip of the bill faces directly up and the hat band is worn like a headband.

3. Apply a 6-inch piece of lace ribbon along the hat band of the visor. Use hot glue on each end of the ribbon and press along the body of the visor hat band, making sure that the fabric is taut and will stay in place.

4. Prepare the feathers. Strip any excess feather fibers off the last 5 inches or so at the base of the feather with scissors. Place a long line of hot glue along the base of the feather and press this glue to the back of the visor bill. Secure the feathers so that the bottom of the feather is on the opposite side of the bill from the sequins you placed in Step 2. Glue the feathers in place so that they fan out in a semicircle, or like the spokes of a wagon, along the back of the bill. Repeat with as many feathers as you need to create a voluminous semicircle of feathers.
