Advertise a raffle by making your own fliers.
When you've scored a big item for your fundraiser or party, let potential winners know about raffle tickets by advertising with a flier. Fliers are quick and portable promotional materials; they're standard sheets of copy paper that may have pictures, graphics or just a few lines of text. With your computer, you can make fliers in just a couple of minutes' time. You'll soon be ready to head out and paper your neighborhood, recruit raffle ticket buyers at an event or send them to your mailing list.
Instructions
Using Publisher
1. Open Publisher, click the "File" tab and select "Change Template." Click the "Home" link, which brings up Publisher's most common quick templates. Click once on the "Fliers" link. Scroll through the available flier templates and double-click one. If the "Change Template" box pops up, click "Apply template to the current publication" and click "OK." After a few moments, the flier appears in the Publisher workspace.
2. Click into the placeholder headline on the flier. Type your words directly in the box over the original ones, such as "Chance to Win a New Motorcycle!" Click into the other boxes on the flier and type over the text with information on ticket prices and deals (such as 6 tickets for $5), how and where to buy tickets, when the drawing will be held and any other event details.
3. Click the "Insert" tab and click the "Clip Art" button. Type a word or phrase into the "Search for" box that goes with the item being raffled off, such as "motorcycle," "tropical island" or "cake." Click "Go," scroll through the images and double-click one to add it to the flier. Another option is to search for "tickets" or "raffle." If you have a photo of the item being raffled, click the "Insert" tab, click "Picture," browse to the item on your computer and double-click the file name, which adds the picture to the flier.
4. Click the "Page" design tab at the top of the screen. Scroll through the blocks of color and double-click one to recolor the flier. Experiment with the color options until you get one that goes with your cause or organization, or simply choose colors you think will capture your audience's attention.
5. Click the "File" tab and select "Save As." Type a name for the flier and save it to your computer.
Using Photoshop
6. Open Photoshop, pull down the "File" menu and click "New." Name the file "RaffleFlyer" and set its dimensions as 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Click the "White" button under the "Contents" menu and click the "OK" button to open the Photoshop workspace.
7. Click "File" again and select "Open." Browse to a digital photo of the item being raffled or a picture of a coil of tickets. Double-click the file, which opens the picture on the screen. Press and hold down the "Ctrl" key and drag and drop the picture onto the "RaffleFlyer" box. To resize it, pull down the "Edit" menu, click "Transform," click "Scale" and shrink it to size.
8. Click the "Type" tool, which looks like a "T" on the "Tools" palette. Select a font, size and color for the headline of the flier. Click the top of the flier and type the headline, such as "Win a Trip to Cancun!" Reduce the font size, move your cursor below the flier and type additional raffle information, such as who benefits from the money, where to buy tickets and when the drawing will be held.
9. Click the right-pointing triangle icon or the three-line icon at the top right of the "Layers" palette and select "Flatten Image." If you don't see the "Layers" palette, pull down the "Window" menu and click "Show Layers."
10. Pull down the "File" menu, click "Save As" and save the flier to your computer.
Using Word
11. Open Word, click the "File" tab and select "New." Click the "Available Templates" section and select "Flyers." Open one of the folder categories for the fliers and scroll through the available designs. Any flier may be customized with your words and images. Double-click a flier and it opens in a new Word window.
12. Highlight the placeholder headline on the flier and type over the words with your own, such as "Buy Raffle Tickets, Win $100!" Repeat this to add the rest of the raffle ticket information on the other text boxes on the flier. Change the appearance of the text by highlighting the words and using the ribbon at the top of the screen to change font, size, color, position and style of the words.
13. Click once on a placeholder graphic on the flier and press the "Delete" key to remove it. Click the "Insert" tab and click the "Picture" box to browse to a digital photo to add to the flier. If you don't have a picture of the item being raffled, click the "Clip Art" box and search for a word or phrase that defines the item, your organization or raffle tickets. Double-click the item to open it on the flier; repeat to add more pictures to the flier.
14. Give the flier a background color by clicking the "Page Layout" tab and pulling down the "Page Color" box, which is in the middle of the ribbon in the "Page Background" section. Click a colored box and the flier instantly changes to the new color. (Don't do this step if you're printing your fliers on colored paper.)
15. Click the "File" tab and click "Save As." Give the flier a name and select a destination to save it to on your computer.
