Help Make Your Own Ocean Creature

Make a creature based on real sea life using common items.

Help kids create their very own sea creature pet out of common household items. The possibilities are endless with sea crafts. You can use construction paper to make simple sea animals, or make cool stuffed toys out of socks. Either way, kids can make their own fish, octopus or other sea creature.

Instructions

Sock Octopus

1. Stuff the sock about halfway full with the Polyfill and tie it off with a rubber band.

2. Cut thin strips out of the sock cuff to look like tentacles.

3. Glue on googly eyes with a hot-glue gun. Use markers to draw facial features on your octopus.

Construction Paper Starfish

4. Choose colors of construction paper to create starfish. Cut the paper into star shapes to create your sea stars.

5. Put some food coloring in water and place 1/4 cup of rice in the mixture to color it.

6. Spoon the rice out of the water and lay it on a paper towel to dry.

7. Squirt glue on your starfish and help kids attach the rice to the starfish to make it look more realistic. The rice will look like the bony top parts of the starfish's body.
