Train A Tap Class

Your passion for tap dance has developed over the years through hard work and many classes. Perhaps you have always looked up to your tap dance teachers and sought to emulate them. After all this time, you're ready to teach a tap dance class.

Instructions

1. Find a place to teach the class. Apply for a job at an existing dance studio or open your own studio. Rent a room or basement with a suitable floor for a tap dance class.

2. Advertise the tap dance class in the local newspaper, radio or tv station. Create flyers and post at schools, library or pass out to friends and family.

3. Hold the classes in the afternoons and evenings when most students and adults have more free time. Divide the tap dance classes by age and skill level.

4. Warm up by doing basic calisthenics. Ask students to purchase tap shoes and clothing appropriate for tap dancing. Teach students the fundamenal tap steps such as brush movements, shuffle, braking and taps.

5. Practice the movements to music. Play tap guessing games with younger children. Let students create their own dances to their choice of music. Create a basic tap routine by combining fundamental steps.

6. Go over choreographed routines as soon as the students know the tap basics. Learning dance routines helps keep students motivated.

7. Move on to combinations and traditional tap routines only when you feel the students are ready. Prepare the students for a dance recital.
