Plan Designs For Just About Any Bouquet In Six Simple Steps

Floral arrangements require careful planning.

The design of a floral arrangement requires specific planning and preparation steps. As a rule, floral designers must complete each step with consideration for the overall theme of the arrangement and the decor of the room or space. In addition, arrangement design incorporates a number of requirements such as the gathering of tools and considerations for container style or type. In addition, floral designers must incorporate both personal experience and design tastes to maximize the effect of the floral arrangement.

Instructions

1. Choose a location. As the location determines the style, color, and container type, choose a location that enhances the room's decor while selecting a container that matches the room's era and style. In addition, choose a location that incorporates the appropriate levels of sunlight and allows for floral arrangement upkeep.

2. Choose an arrangement type. When planning an arrangement, choose a position related to the style or theme. Popular positions include a wide-lower arrangement designed for tabletops, a narrow and tall arrangement or a traditional hanging arrangement. Be sure to consider available space, while considering flower type and characteristics.

3. Choose a specific container with respect to the position chosen in the prior step. Select either a foam-filled hanging basket which is lighter in weight and water absorbent or a solid container filled with florist clay which enhances flower stability in a tabletop or floor-based arrangement. In addition, choose a clear vase flower container designed to hold selected flowers with accompanying water or stones.

4. Choose flowers and foliage based on the theme and position selected in the previous step. Choose flowers based on the intended location of the arrangement as sunlight and ease of access weigh heavily. In addition, choose flowers by care specifics such as blooming cycles and nutrient needs.

5. Prepare flowers and greenery for placement in the arrangement by cutting dead or wilted areas in addition to removing any thorns present. For soft-stemmed flowers, prepare the flower by cutting the stem at an angle prior to placement. For Lilac and other flowers with a woody stem, split the entire stem using a flat hammer for increased water absorption. Reinforce weak areas with florist tape. Weak areas include the base of the flower or the top of the stem.

6. Choose accents. Choose individual items to accompany the floral arrangement such as bamboo sticks, sea shells and ornamental stones. In addition, choose items that represent a specific theme such as wildlife figurines and decorative ribbons. the selected accent should lay in congruence with the overall theme of the arrangement in addition to the room's decor and style.
