Switch Decks Throughout A Performance

Switch Decks During a Performance

When performing magic, many magicians like to use multiple decks of cards. These decks can be regular, gaff, trick or previously set up. Regardless of the types, actually transitioning from one deck to another can be much harder than transitioning the tricks themselves. This tutorial will offer insight into how you can seamlessly use multiple decks within a performance, without anyone knowing.

Instructions

1. Before even thinking about performing with multiple decks for the same audience, understand that it involves misdirection BEFORE the trick even begins.

2. Place the decks, which need to be identical, in the same pocket.

3. Be sure to somehow differentiate between the decks. This can be done through small tears or markings on them. You need to be able to feel, or easily see the differences.

4. Begin the performance with Deck A. Perform a few tricks with it, being sure to blatantly show the audience what it looks like.

5. When done, casually place Deck A into your pocket and transition to a coin trick or anything not involving cards.

6. Once finished with the subsequent trick(s), reach back into your pocket and remove Deck B, still presenting it as A. Since the decks look so similar, the audience will struggle to notice a difference.

7. While switching decks, inform the audience of your intention to revert to card tricks.

They saw the deck go into your pocket and will think it odd to ask if you are using different decks.
