Anime is a Japanese form of animation that has become popularized in the West throughout the past two decades. Designing an anime character is part of the character creation process and involves a considerable amount of thought and research. The design of an anime character often depends heavily upon it's intended genre.
Fantasy Elf
Elves are a common occurrence in fantasy genres. Anime is no exception. Though it's been done many times, there are numerous ways to make a fantasy elf anime character original. For example, make the elf the height of a normal person, create him or her without magical powers, or even have the elf originate from an industrial wasteland rather than a traditional forest. You could even design the clothing to look human-like or give the elf wings so your audience wonders whether it is an elf or a fairy. Scepters, daggers, or similar weapons may prove good tools for a fantasy elf.
Ninja Warrior
Ninjas are highly popular in anime due to the increasing popularity of the ninja anime series, Naruto. Many people think of ninjas as assassins in black attire. However, there are so many other ways that ninjas can dress, as demonstrated in Naruto. Your ninja warrior's design could include street clothing and only when your character is provoked will he pull out his ninja weapons and reveal himself. You could create a ninja that is cat-like or bird-like in nature and has a close relationship with it's chosen animal.
Adventuring Swordsman
The traveling swordsmen is a common theme in the adventure genre of anime. Traveling swordsmen often carry their sword on their backs. There are several things that you can do to make your anime character unique. You could make it so that he is the one that needs to be saved by his woman as he may not yet have mastered his sword skills. You could create him with daggers instead of a sword. He could have long hair that is pulled up, similar to a samurai, but it could be multi-colored.
