New Orleans Culinary History Tours offers two types of tours: the tasting tour and the oyster crawl. The guided walking tours pass through the French Quarter as participants are told stories of the pre-Civil War restaurants. The tour will also pass the historic landmarks of Napoleon House and St. Louis Cathedral. With a focus on history, culture and food as part of the city's heritage, expect to be immersed into the social history of food as you sample different plates and offerings from notable restaurants in the area.
Tasting Tour
Sign up for the New Orleans Culinary History Tasting Tour and walk through the French Quarter as you learn how its local cuisine evolved. The tour stops at select historic restaurants including Antoine's and Tujague's, the two oldest dining establishments that opened in1840 and 1856, respectively. This three-hour tour aims to differentiate between Creole and Cajun cuisine and other ethnic influences of New Orleans cuisine. Expect dishes like seafood gumbo, red beans and rice, pralines, turtle soup and more. Book early as the tour is limited to 16 people.
Oyster Crawl
New Orleans Culinary History Tours offers Oyster Crawl for those who want an extensive sampling of the French Quarter's oyster dishes. The tour guide will discuss the origins of the popular Oysters Rockefeller dish as you sample it along with other offerings like oysters on the half shell, oysters Bienville, chargrilled oysters and oyster po'boy. In addition to food tastings, guests will also visit some of the area's landmarks. Book early as space is limited to 12 participants per tour.
