Help Make Your Own Canvas Using Mod Podge

Add your personal touch to your wall decorations by making a homemade canvas.

Making your own wall hangings out of a canvas and decoupage glue, such as Mod Podge all-in-one glue, sealer and finish, is a fast and cheap way to give your interior decoration a personal touch. Decoupage glue smooths so nicely onto canvas that you can practically stick anything down, from a sheet of scrapbooking paper, to photos to textured cutouts made out of thick cardstock. Customize your walls with your own homemade style.

Instructions

1. Plan out your project. Choose decorative paper, a picture in a book, a photo or a design that you would like to put on your canvas. If you cut a design out from thick cardstock, it will give a raised image once on the canvas. A piece of your favorite scrapbooking paper glued to the canvas will give a decorative look that can complement the colors of your room.

2. Print your photo on high-quality paper, scan and print a picture from a book or cut out a design from thick cardstock paper. If you are going to make a decoupage collage on your canvas, cut your tissue paper into small pieces.

3. Apply a thin and even layer Mod Podge to your canvas.

4. Lay your paper, photo or design onto the canvas. Gently smooth the paper out, removing any air bubbles or creases.

5. Apply another layer of glue to the top of the paper. Brush it evenly over the entire design, stroking the brush in the same direction. There will be a visible thin layer of white glue, which will become clear when it dries.

6. Smooth out with your finger any air bubbles or creases that appear after you apply the glue. Go over the touched areas again with your brush.

7. Let your canvas dry thoroughly before hanging.
