Polish Granite

Granite countertops are a beautiful addition to any household, but they do require sealing and polishing the granite a few times each year. This process may at first seem daunting but with practice requires minimal effort. Don’t let the regular maintenance that granite requires keep you from using it in your home. With consistent upkeep your granite countertops can remain lovely and functional for generations.

Instructions

1. Clean your granite with a specialized granite cleaner, available at most hardware stores. Other cleansers have harsh chemicals that can damage the granite seal over time and make it more prone to damage and unsightly stains. While using dish soap will not damage your countertops it can leave a film on them that will make the granite polish less effective.

2. Dry the granite by rubbing with a clean microfiber cloth. Allow the granite to air dry for several hours before proceeding. If you see any streaks or smudges repeat all steps from the beginning

3. Spray the granite polish on your granite in small sections. Buff using a clean microfiber cloth. If the product appears to be smearing pause to allow it to dry a bit then resume buffing. If continued buffing does not remove the smears, spray on more polish and continue until there are no smears on your granite.

4. Test the polish once it is dry. Sprinkle water on the granite. If the water beads up, the job is finished. If the water does not bead you will need to also seal your granite.

5. Repeat this process every three months to maintain a nice polish on your granite. Once a year follow this routine by resealing your granite to prevent stains.
