Repair Dry Erase Boards

Dry erase boards are useful tools for classrooms, meeting rooms and other environments where visual information must accompany a speech or lecture. Unfortunately, over time, dry erase boards become worn looking and dingy. Typically, the front surface of the board retains some of the marker ink, so it becomes gray and difficult to read after years of use. Fortunately, there are easy ways you can repair a dry erase board to make it look new again.

Instructions

1. Apply a cleaner specifically designed for dry erase boards. This may remove some of the ink that has penetrated the board's surface. If ink has remained on the board for several days or longer, though, using this type of cleaner may not be sufficient to remove the ink.

2. Scrub the surface of the dry erase board with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth. Rubbing alcohol can remove both washable and permanent inks from many surfaces, including fabric, leather and dry erase boards. It can even remove permanent black ink if it has not been left on the board for more than a few hours.

3. Apply a thin coat of car wax on the surface of the board, just as if you were waxing a car. Allow the wax to dry to a haze, then buff off the wax in a circular motion with a clean, soft cloth.
