Traditional Halloween witches wear pointed hats and black capes.
Witches are a familiar sight around Halloween. Whether they're soaring past a full moon on a broomstick or stirring a bubbling, green brew with a black cat at their feet, Halloween witches are often shown with a range of expressions ranging from friendly to menacing. Painting a Halloween witch is an activity your can do with children. Once the paintings are dry, poke a hole through the top and hang them up as unique decorations.
Instructions
1. Draw an oval for the witch's head on a paper with a pencil. Make the oval small enough so you have room on the paper for the witch's body. Draw a larger oval for the body to the right of the head so the top of the body is slightly higher than the bottom of the head. Connect the head and body with two straight lines to draw the witch's neck. The form of the body will look slightly hunched over.
2. Draw a skirt hanging off of the bottom right of the witch so it looks like she is sitting. Make the bottom hem of the skirt uneven and frayed.
3. Add a long hook nose extending from the center of the witch's profile and a pointed chin to add detail to the face.
4. Draw four straight lines as her legs sticking from the bottom of her skirt at a right angle. Draw sideways triangles off the bottoms of the legs for her boots. Draw two arms extending in a right angle below the neck. Similar to the legs, the arms can be simple straight lines with circles on the ends for her fists.
5. Use a thin paintbrush to paint the witch's face, neck, arms and legs a bright green color for a classic, eye-catching witch.
6. Paint her top, skirt and boots black.
7. Dip a thin paintbrush in brown paint and draw a straight diagonal extending from above her fists, between her fists and the skirt, and down the other side of her bottom. Paint several wispy lines at the bottom of the stick. It should look like she's sitting on her broom stick and clutching the end with her fists.
8. Use red paint for her lips. Make a simple upward curve for a sly grin or a straight line to make her look angry.
9. Paint a black circle for the eye and an angled straight line for her furrowed brow. Paint black dots on her chin for warts.
10. Add a triangle hat with a wide brim over the top of the witch's head. Paint the hat black with a yellow or bright orange belt around the brim for a burst of color.
11. Dip your paintbrush in a color of your choice for the witch's hair. Use gray to make her look haggard or red for a wild, fierce witch. Paint spirals flying out from beneath the hat as though her hair is blowing in the wind.
